Dahlonega celebrates Trailfest in April to recognize its Appalachian Trail (AT) heritage and designation as the southern terminus community. The AT is easily accessed at Springer Mountain and in Suches, Georgia.

Hiking trails weave the way through scenic north Georgia mountains. The Mountain Top Lodgeis convenient to over 15 trails suitable for day hikes, ranging from easy to strenuous. Several lead to scenic waterfalls and panoramic views.

Mountain Top Lodge is just 11 miles from Amicalola State Park, home to Amicalola Falls – at 729 feet, the tallest cascade in the southeast! Dahlonega, and the surrounding mountain communities, have challenging roads through the mountain gaps that are routes for the annual Six/Three Gap Ride Weekend in September.

Go Fishing in the Mountains

Waters Creek

Waters Creek Day use area: Trout fishing is available on Dicks and Waters Creek. Upper Waters Creek is designated as a trophy trout stream. 12 miles north of Dahlonega on US Hwy. 19. Turn left at Forest Service sign onto FS 34. Check in at Rangers station.

Etowah River

Etowah River Fishing above Jay Bridge and the Etowah tributaries upstream from the Castleberry bridge to Jay Bridge is limited to the fishing season. Hwy. Bus. 19N to Wahsega Rd. to end. Turn left @ Ranger Camp onto FS 28-1 and go 1.6 miles to the Etowah River.

Winfield Scott Lake

Winfield Scott Lake is stocked with rainbow trout. Follow Ga. Hwy. 60N from Dahlonega through Suches. Turn right on Hwy. 180 and turn right at Forest Service Sign. Approximately 22 miles from Dahlonega.
